We wish to clarify two factual inaccuracies that have appeared in recent media articles concerning our organisation.
Irish Sun Article – “Charity’s €50m of housing for State” (Published 18 September)
This article incorrectly states that Peter McVerry Trust is to transfer €50 million worth of housing to local authorities as part of the repayment of the €15 million loan provided by the Government in November 2023.
The funding was provided on the condition the Minister reserved the right to recover the value of the exceptional funding provided, by way of transfer of assets. Peter McVerry Trust is now working closely with the Department of Housing to identify and transfer €15 million worth of unencumbered assets, including housing units and vacant properties, to the appropriate local authorities.
The Currency Article – “Extreme urgency: Peter McVerry Trust awarded €5m contract without competition” (Published 15 September)
This article incorrectly reports the value of the Housing First six month contract extension to be €5.3 million. The figure is inaccurate.
The DRHE published a Notice to allow it to award a contract to PMVT based on actual costs and until such time as the public tender process by the Housing Agency concludes. The figures reflect the maximum estimated annual cost but the amount of funding to PMVT will be based on actual expenditure.
