Louth, Cavan and Monaghan
North East services

Peter McVerry Trust opened its first regional office in Drogheda, Co Louth in September 2018 and is active in Louth, Cavan and Monaghan.

The charity provides a number of services across the North East region. These include Housing First, housing services, homeless services and Aftercare housing.

In 2023, we supported 140 unique individuals across our services in the North East.

Housing First

Peter McVerry Trust signed the Housing First contract for the North East Region on Tuesday, February 18th 2020.

The contract will see Peter McVerry Trust work with Louth County Council, Cavan County Council and Monaghan County Council to to deliver individual homes for people rough sleeping in the region.

This model is hugely successful at re-housing and supporting the most complex cases in homelessness. It gives people a key to their own home and the wraparound supports needed to help integrate into their communities.

In 2020, with a Year One target of 11 tenancies, Peter McVerry Trust created 20 Housing First tenancies in the North East Region and continued to provide pathways out of homelessness for some of society’s most vulnerable people.

Housing

We have operated in the North East since September 2017, supporting single people and people exiting prison.

We work with Louth County Council to support individuals into their own accommodation and for a minimum of six months after entering their own accommodation.

We work with individuals with No Fixed Address or in emergency accommodation. This is to support individuals into long-term accommodation through approved housing bodies, housing assistance payment (HAP) and local authority housing.

All referrals come from Louth County Council. We work in conjunction with:

  • Tusla
  • Intreo
  • Local homeless services
  • Probation services
  • Mental health services
  • An Garda Síochána

Staff in our drop-in service in Drogheda can assist with the following:

  • Support completing forms such as the Housing application form, HAP form and Medical Card form
  • Information direction
  • HAP property search
  • Preparing documents for a HAP application
  • Information regarding local services such as CWO, HAP Clinic, Homeless Clinic, Addiction Services, Family Support Services and Intreo
