On Easter Sunday, the RTÉ show Keys to my Life aired an episode featuring Fr. Peter McVerry.
In the episode, Fr. McVerry retraces his steps from the one-bed council flat in Ballymun where he has lived for 33 years, all the way back to his childhood home in Newry. Fr. McVerry attended Clongowes Wood College, a private boarding school, and studied chemistry at UCD after joining the Jesuit Order. Those unfamiliar with Fr. McVerry’s life story may find it unexpected and resonating with profound meaning.
Fr. Peter McVerry opened his first hostel for homeless boys over 40 years ago. Throughout that time, he has been a passionate social justice campaigner, as well as working tirelessly to provide necessary housing and support services for people at the margins of society, which culminated in the establishment of our charity.
