Anthony

“When we moved to Ballymun, there was nothing there. There was not even playgrounds like. Like, it was just crime, crime or drugs. And then I grew into that. I spent over 30 years in prison…but then, a light bulb moment came when I said, what am I doing with my life?”

This reflection sparked a journey for Anthony, who was caught up in a cycle of crime and prison in Dublin. After meeting Father Peter McVerry during his time in prison, Anthony moved from a life of theft and drug use, to a life of rehabilitation and employment.

“Peter McVerry gave me a chance…it’s actually given me a wake-up call to say, look, there is a better life out there. I don’t have to rob…I can earn an honest living.”

With the support of his key workers Kelly, Leah, and Abi, along with collaboration from the Activation Team at Peter McVerry Trust, Anthony was successfully offered a job at Mr Price Stores.

Through the joint efforts of the Activation team and Mr Price Stores, a comprehensive ‘Employment Sustainment’ process was devised to address the unique support requirements of each employee, aiming for sustained employment.

Anthony was among the initial participants from Peter McVerry Trust to benefit from this collaborative process and he has been steadily employed since September 2023.

The Manager of Mr Price Store speaks highly of Anthony, considering him an invaluable asset to their team. Anthony is now flourishing, both professionally and personally, residing in his own accommodation and leading a drug and crime-free life.
