Just Eat, Ireland’s leading online food delivery marketplace, will be donating €50,000 to long-standing charity partner Peter McVerry Trust and so far, a further €50,000 has been donated by customers on Just Eat.

Just Eat launched its Winter Charity Campaign, allowing customers to donate on the Just Eat platform. So far, customers have donated a whopping €50,000 since the campaign launched at the end of November. The campaign will run until January 3rd, 2023 As part of the campaign, Just Eat customers have the option to donate €1, €3 or €5 when ordering their favourite takeaway.

As part of Just Eat’s commitment to supporting Peter McVerry Trust, the Just Eat team recently took part in volunteer days at Peter McVerry Trust’s service in Kerdiffstown House in Naas. The service, which was opened in November 2018, aims to support participants with housing, addiction and mental health issues.

The Peter McVerry Trust team has supported many participants in Kerdiffstown House out of homelessness. Currently, the service has 100 beds available for Supported Temporary Accommodation (STA) placements for people from Kildare and Dublin. The service also has a provision for emergency or adverse weather conditions.

Kerdiffstown House launched its social farm in February 2020, after rescuing a number of rabbits from the DSPCA. The service also houses a flock of chickens rescued from a battery farm in November 2020. Since their arrival at the service, the chickens have thrived. Following the success of the rabbits and chickens, the team have welcomed three playful goats, Jackson, Freddie, and Elvis, two donkeys, Lily and Bridget, two sheep, Bow and Peep, three pigs, Podge, Wilbert, and Harry, and our most recent additions, two peacocks, Bert and Ernie.

In addition, the Community Employment (CE) Scheme initiated the mindfulness garden project which involved renovating the garden during the summer of 2021 at Kerdiffstown House. The mindfulness garden has enabled those using Peter McVerry Trust services at this location to take part in gardening, which is a powerful stress-relieving activity. The mindfulness garden has also empowered those to recharge and refocus while having a daily routine.

Commenting on the Winter Charity Campaign, Amanda Roche-Kelly, Managing Director of Just Eat Takeaway Ireland said: “It’s of the utmost importance that we continue our support of our long-standing charity partner Peter McVerry Trust. The work that the Peter McVerry Trust team does is nothing short of incredible and we are so proud to be able to support them through not only donations but also by getting involved and volunteering at Kerdiffstown House. This can be an incredibly difficult time of year for many, and we hope that our support will go some way in helping those in need.”

Pat Doyle, CEO, Peter McVerry Trust commented: “We greatly value the support Just Eat have shown our organisation over the last 7 years – and we are delighted to see that generosity continue. The money donated by Just Eat and their fantastic customers will be particularly valuable at this time of the year – winter is the busiest time of the year for our services and also the hardest for those impacted by homelessness. We’re so grateful for the donation and also the volunteer support that Just Eat provides helping us to maintain our services. The support provided by Just Eat and their customers will help more people across Ireland leave homelessness behind for good.”
