Cork and Kerry
South West Services

Peter McVerry Trust provides a number of services across counties Cork and Kerry, including housing services and resettlement services, with the opening of the charity’s Southern Regional Office in Cork city centre in July 2021.

In 2023, we supported 1,376 unique individuals across our services in the South West.

Housing

In January 2019, Peter McVerry Trust began working with Cork County Council in order to increase the availability of social housing in the county.  Our partnership focused on housing people impacted by homelessness in county Cork and delivering a number of social housing projects in the county.

In March 2019, Peter McVerry Trust was asked by Cork City Council to partner with them again to work on providing social housing units for people impacted by homelessness. Our work initially focused on empty homes initiatives in the city. We also worked with Cork County Council to identify empty properties across the broader region.

In September 2020, Peter McVerry Trust delivered its first social housing units in partnership with Kerry County Council, with 15 units in Killarney providing homes for over 30 people in the area – a mixture of singles, couples and families. All our tenants will receive ongoing support from our dedicated Housing With Supports team who are available to them 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In July 2021, Peter McVerry Trust’s strategic plan for period 2021-2025 was launched by An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, at the official opening of the charity’s Southern Regional office in Cork city centre, where Peter McVerry Trust also secured five new one-bedroom apartments for use for social housing.

In the southern region of Cork and Kerry the charity has 54 homes at present. Under Peter McVerry Trust’s strategic plan 2021-2025, the target is to have delivered a total of over 230 social housing units across Cork City, County Cork and County Kerry by the end of 2022.
