Peter McVerry Trust are delighted to be selected as one of Munster Rugby’s two charity partners for 2020. It is a great privilege to be chosen by one of the country’s most prominent rugby clubs, and the partnership is a fantastic source of support for the work we do.
The partnership between Peter McVerry Trust and Munster Rugby doesn’t just provide support for the charity throughout the 2019/20 season. It also creates a framework to increase awareness of the issues surrounding homelessness, educate the community, and to inform people of the work Peter McVerry Trust has done, and continues to do on an increasing scale, in the Munster region.
Since opening our first regional office in Limerick City in December 2016, we have delivered a social housing programme in Limerick City and County. Additionally, in 2019 we delivered our first social housing in Clare and in early 2020 will be supporting people into their own homes in our first properties in Cork City and County.
As of February, the partnership has already been a fantastic success and we are grateful for the engagement Munster Rugby have provided, including:
- Munster Rugby’s first Dublin Gala Dinner in November where attendees were given the opportunity to donate to Peter McVerry Trust
- The Guinness PRO14 clash against Leinster Rugby on the 28th December, where €1 from the sale of each match programme was donated to Peter McVerry Trust and a signed jersey was presented to us at half-time
- Providing us with a Gala Ball auction prize: Mascot Slot & tickets for a family to see Munster v Cardiff Blues, Thomond Park, Sat 11th April
Additionally, we will be announcing the guest appearance of one of Munster Rugby’s star players at an event of ours in the near future.
Over the next few months, we are very much looking forward to delivering the impactful advocacy Peter McVerry Trust and Munster Rugby are capable of.
