When moving between properties in early 2019, Gerry suffered a broken leg which would see him spend an extensive period in hospital, two nursing homes, and ultimately, a year in emergency accommodation.

Gerry moved into his own home in Bettystown, Co. Meath in late 2020 with support from Peter McVerry Trust.
