After 12 months living in a room in a relative’s house with their young son, Anna and Michael got the keys to their new home in Mayo. Peter McVerry Trust supported this young family to start the next chapter of their lives.
“It was very hard for us to take the step and ask for help. We were desperate. Having a nonverbal autistic child is a challenge alone, let alone the stress of becoming homeless.

“They contacted me and told me there would be a flat for me, so that was brilliant, before Christmas and everything. It’s ten years since I’ve had somewhere, so I’m over the moon with it. I’m able to do my own cooking and everything, which is a big thing for me.

Niki was experiencing homelessness for ten years before moving into an apartment of his own in Cork City. He’s looking forward to starting the next chapter of his life with the support of Peter McVerry Trust.
