Peter McVerry Trust, the national housing and homeless charity, has announced plans to significantly grow its footprint in Limerick City and County. The charity which works with the Council to create social housing pathways for people impacted by homelessness has been active in Limerick since 2016. The charity made the comments at its annual Limerick Business Breakfast which is sponsored by the Castletroy Park Hotel and returned after a two year break due to Covid-19.
Pat Doyle, CEO of Peter McVerry Trust said, “We are delighted to be back and able to organise the Peter McVerry Trust Business Breakfast in Limerick. This is a very important event for us and one we missed in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19. We have fantastic support from the business community in Limerick and have over 200 people at the event. I’d like to pay particular thanks to Pat McDonagh, for his support and the support of the Castletroy Park Hotel, together with Michael O’Dwyer who has helped organise the event on our behalf.”
“We have been active in Limerick since 2016 and opened our first regional office in Limerick back then. We have continued to grow and strengthen our relationship with the Limerick City and County Council and we are very much focused on the delivery of social housing, growing our tenant supports and working on employment activation programmes in Limerick.”
Growing Commitment to Limerick
“We are investing more in Limerick and have recently agreed to increase the office space on O’Connell Street to facilitate the increased staff numbers. We are also progressing a number of important social housing projects, all of which are regenerating vacant buildings or infill sites. These are not just in Limerick city but also in areas such as Askeaton and Newcastle West.”
“This also points to a significant investment by Peter McVerry Trust to Limerick and to helping tackle homelessness in the county as we work alongside Pat Daly and his team in the Council.”
Pat McDonagh, Owner of Só Hotels group and Supermac’s
“Both myself, Una and the team at the Castletroy Park Hotel are delighted to be able to support the Peter McVerry Trust Limerick Business Breakfast again this year. We have been supporting the work of the Trust since they began in Limerick in 2016 and this is our 4th year hosting the fundraiser. It is hugely important, now more than ever, to support the great work that Fr. Peter and his team are doing. We are particularly pleased to hear that the Trust will be extending its facilities in Limerick City and County. Our commitment to Limerick goes back over decades. It is founded in my great experiences as a student in Mary Immaculate College more years ago than I will admit. Father Peter and ourselves have found kinship together in investing in Limerick and its people and we will continue to do.”
The event was attended by Limerick business leaders and the keynote speech was delivered by the manager of the Limerick Senior Hurling Team, John Kiely.
