RTÉ Kin star launches Peter McVerry Trust Cycle at Leopardstown Racecourse

Ben Carolan, Sing Street and RTÉ hit series Kin star, is getting on his bike to raise vital funds for Peter McVerry Trust, the national housing and homelessness charity.

The Peter McVerry Trust Cycle 2023 will take place on Saturday 16th September with two new loop routes – starting and finishing at Leopardstown Racecourse. The event, suitable for cyclists of all abilities, offers participants the opportunity to take on the thrilling 125km Leopardstown Loop or the scenic 70km Sally Gap route.

Crumlin native Ben, who first found fame in Sing Street in 2016, played assassin Glen Wright in RTÉ’s hit series Kin about a fictional Dublin family entangled in a gangland war. The young actor will take on the 126km Leopardstown Loop on Saturday 16th September.

Ben said, “I have been looking for an Irish homeless charity to work with and support – and who better to work with than Peter McVerry Trust? It has been an absolute institution in Ireland for 40 years now. I wanted to get involved and raise money.

“I was lucky to have a happy upbringing, with a Mam and Dad who supported me and pushed me to do what I wanted to do. As I grow older I realise how privileged I was to have those simple things, not everyone has that stable background, so I wanted to give back. I’m delighted to be doing the cycle. It’s my first long cycle, I’m looking forward to it!”

Louise Sherwin, Head of Fundraising at Peter McVerry Trust, said: “We’re delighted to launch our annual Peter McVerry Trust cycle with Ben, he’s a fantastic ambassador for the event. He understands the significance of the work that Peter McVerry Trust does each and every day, and will be an active participant in the cycle to showcase that support.

“This year we are launching two new loop routes and are excited to move to a new venue at Leopardstown Racecourse. The event will finish with a BBQ, live music and lots of activities to keep the children entertained.

“We’re calling on the Irish public to jump on their bikes and take part in the Peter McVerry Trust Cycle 2023. Your support will help us in our ongoing work to support individuals and families throughout the country, whether through our many services or by giving more people a place to call home.”

Registration for the 2023 Peter McVerry Trust Cycle is now open. The event is open to cyclists of all abilities (aged 16 and up).

All funds raised will go towards Peter McVerry Trust’s work to support people impacted by homelessness across Ireland.
