Opening Doors Appeal 2022

Thank you for supporting our Opening Doors appeal

Education has the power to prevent people falling into homelessness and also help those who become homeless to find a way out.

We are focused on ensuring young people are supported to find a place where they can succeed and find their passion. With your help we can provide better supports to vulnerable young people and help them find a pathway to further education, training and employment.

We know that for people in our homeless services, further education, training and employment can be the difference between staying in homelessness or finding a way out.

We offer a wide range of supports to people in our services across Ireland. Helping them to work on their literacy skills, to overcome undiagnosed learning difficulties and ultimately help them find a course or job pathway that can be the extra step that helps them leave homelessness behind.

By donating to our Opening Doors appeal, you will help to create brighter futures for the young people we work with every day.

“If I didn’t come to Peter McVerry Trust, I don’t know where I’d be. I’d probably be in prison, or homeless or worse.”

James, 18, knows the difference our support can make. At just 2 years, of age, James and his mother were homeless, and lived in their car for a period of time.

Later James successfully completed his Junior Cert at one of Peter McVerry Trust’s Learning Centres and with ongoing support from Peter McVerry Trust, started further education, before graduating with certs in Engineering and Maths.

Since then, James has become the youngest person working on site at a large multinational blue-chip company, where he services and maintains complex machinery worth millions.

“There was such a relaxed atmosphere in class here. You could have your joke, have a laugh and then move on with the learning. It made coming here, and staying in here, much easier than going home early.”

Holly, like James, came to us after exiting mainstream education. When Holly started at our PMVT Learning Centre – Carline, she could barely talk to the school’s manager. As she left, she sang in front of her classmates at an outdoor ceremony to mark their achievements.

Now she has her Junior Certificate and has completed QQI awards in IT studies.
